With sonic constructions including several partnerships, in heaven is guided by its mentor: Monsieur Whiteman.
Welcome in heaven...
On the one hand, there is Monsieur Whiteman, an enigmatic character who translates his emotions into sounds. Through hypnotic moods, somewhere between John Carpenter and Angelo Badalamenti, Monsieur Whiteman brings the listener to an idyllic Garden of Eden.
On the other hand, there is In Heaven, a music collective guided by its mentor, Monsieur Whiteman, in which preachers are invited to spread the word.
Dominique Van Cappellen-Waldock joins him for this debut e.p. She is a Pythia in several bands such as Baby Fire, Keiki and, recently, von Stroheim, and has also worked with Eugene Robinson from Oxbow, Doug Scharin (Codeine, June of 44, Bill Laswell…) and Joe Goldring (Swans, Enablers, John Murry…).
Her lyrics evoke love stories gone sour. Hearts are broken as well as necks. Eyes are blinded, bodies torn using daggers, and even forks. We bathe in a suffocating film noir atmosphere.
In Heaven’s music captures the chill of stormy weather, interspersed with brief sunny spells. Close your eyes and imagine Nick Cave kissing Beth Gibbons while Badalamenti’s strange sounds light up the room. And if you can? Welcome in heaven…
