CAUSTIC

Band in Molins De Rei, Catalonia / Barcelona, ES

Biography

CAUSTIC can be named as one of the pioneers of Catalan’s Brutal Death Metal. Formed in 1992, and despite several line-up changes, the band has created a short but prolific legacy in the underground scene. Nowadays, the band has decided the time is come, 2014 is the right moment to go back to scene. But, firstly a short summary of the band’s trajectory The debut arrived in 1995 with the first self-edited demo, “The Sensations of the End”, where the band played classical death metal with some technical touches. This demo was distributed, basically, in the local circuit. After that, the band spent their efforts composing their first LP, entitled “Rebirth of Procreation”. Edited in 1999 by the Nippon Jackhammer Music label, the record obtained some worldwide repercussion in the underground scene. Musically, the band explored a more extreme death metal way in the compositions, but without letting apart their original Death Metal’s origins. The line-up at the time was Xavier Brosa (bass), Miguel Vidal (rhythm guitar), David Blaya (lead guitar), “Chus” Torres (drums) and Roger Moreno (vocals). Roughly after the recording sessions, David Blaya left the band. The band carries on only with Miguel Vidal on guitars, so the band did several presentation concerts around Catalonia, mainly in Barcelona’s area. A few years later, in 2004, “Franco” (ex-Unnatural, ex-Fermento…) joined the band and quickly began the recording process of the second LP, called “The Horror Cult”. Recorded at AXSTUDIO (Barcelona) and produced by MisterAx, the record appeared later that year. Firstly, self-edited, it obtained good reviews from a lot of international webzines and fanzines and a very good response of the underground scene. As a result, the Spanish label “Hecatombe Records” took care of a record re-edition few months later. That record included nine intense songs with a big dose of brutality, combining lyrics in three languages (English, Spanish and Catalan). In the subsequent years, the band promoted their record across the Spanish territory, sharing stages with bands like Dismember, Human Mincer, Avulsed, Reincarnation, Vidres a la Sang, From the Ashes, Scent of Death, Machetazo, Ephemereal, No Fate, Continuo Renacer or Setge. At the end of the promotion campaign, Miguel Vidal left the band due to job issues, and Alexandre (Setge) joined in, just in time to record two new songs for a promo CD and the only Caustic’s video clip, “Progressive Human Tide”. This promo was a view of the productive process in that moment. Unfortunately, only few months later, Alexandre, Chus and Franco left the band. Even though, that should be the end of the line, the remained members continued working, trying to find new members. At the beginning of 2009, Chus and David Blaya re-joined the band, allowing the chance for new gigs (mainly, The Iberian Massacre Tour with Pesta Porcina). Sadly, after a while, Chus and David left the band definitely. However, Roger and Xavi, the former and remaining members of this tormentous project, faced two blank years with blind faith and perseverance to raise the band from the ashes again. The fight paid off with a totally reformed line-up: Jose Rosendo (Drums), Ignasi Bocanegra (Lead Guitar) and Jose Polo (Rhythm Guitar) at some point between 2011 and 2012. After 6 months of rehearsals, the band striked again, sharing stage in the “8th Move Your Fucking Brain Extreme Festival” (Molins de Rei – Barcelona) with bands like Sinister, Internal Suffering or Avulsed. A few months later, the band was included in the “1st Spain Death metal Festival (Alicante)” sharing stage with Internal Suffering and Avulsed, once again. According with the renewed spirit, Caustic start the composing and recording process of their third record. Named “Hate Generation”, it points as the return of Caustic to the Brutal Death scene with nine new songs and a re-recorded song, Caotic Ritual, appeared in the “Sensations of the End” debut. This record is going to be edited by Sevared Records and is expected to see the light in fall 2014.
