Biography
In the midst of a violent summer in the city of Milwaukee and pressing through the beginnings of a life tainted with tragedy, one local rapper is keeping the peace and making a name for himself. Young Papi, who began rapping at the age of 14, simply for fun, began taking it seriously in 2015 upon the death of his younger brother and best friend, Jaye Wordz, whose dream had always been to share his lyrical talent with the world. Fast forward three years later, and after dropping several mixtapes under the label FMG (Fortune Music Group), Papidelivered “Selfish,” giving his fans more heat than expected from that, the Summer of 2018. Traveling from track 1 to 12, he takes you on a reflective trip including the loss of his father to cancer, the unexpected loss of his mother, the loss of his best friend/brother brother and close friend to gun violence which are reflected in “I Told Cuzzo.” He humbly shares the value of having the comfort and support of his “mud brothers” to press forward despite significant loss. And it wouldn’t be a Young Papi banger if he didn’t show the upside of life in fan-favorite “Heartbreaker” featuring fellow FMG artist Streetz. As he grinds in the studio working on his next project, “Selfish II”, “Selfish” continues to build a strong following and show much promise in the future of rap as well as his current project available on all music platforms, “Papilarity”, released Spring of 2019. “Papilarity” brings out a more creative side of Papi Baby, a name more becoming of him over the last few months. “What’s Hannin” is a reflective piece much like those on “Selfish” which show the humbleness gained from his past pains. The most popular tracks, “Scamming” and “Mad At Us,” present more melody and bars that pop, forcing you to rewind to make sure you heard it right the first time. It’s no wonder in June why Sidestream had the track “Big Homie Mad” at number 1 in the Milwaukee area, along with “Cartier Lenses” at #3. Currently Papi is bouncing from Milwaukee, to Atlanta and California sharing his sound and building his reputation as a top Milwaukee rapper who is one to definitely look out for.
