I am a freelance photographer currently studying MA Photography at Manchester Metropolitan University. Having completed my bachelor's degree in Media and Communications (Photography) at Birmingham City University, I decided to continue my studies up north to develop my understanding of media theory and develop even further a professional.
University has taught me several new skills and developed the ones that I already possessed further. For instance, I have learned how to use Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator for visual design and photography purposes.
The biggest creative development that I have made is that when I first arrived at BCU I had never picked up a DSLR camera. Now it's hard to pull me away from one. The course has allowed me to discover a real passion for music photography, but I also enjoy experimenting with other genres to improve my skills in other areas. I have gained experience in portraiture, travel, wedding, and event photography over the past few years.
I have previous experience within the music publication field, shooting for both Indie Midlands and Counteract every week, both of which are Birmingham based online publications. This voluntary work experience allowed me to become immersed within the local music scene allowing for development in my technical knowledge and my post-processing skills. I have also worked alongside musicians within the Birmingham music scene. For example, I collaborated with singer-songwriter, Bryony Williams, producing promotional content and the artwork for her single, 'Little Tree.'
