DEVILISH PIRANHAS: a rock’n’roll voodoo animal

DEVILISH PIRANHAS believe in magic and in good vibrations... ready to play their new album “Greetings from the voodoo island of lust” in Milan and Florence soon!

Hi. Tell us something about Devilish Piranhas project.
Hi! It’s not a project! It’s a kind of rock’n’roll animal, a rock’n’roll band!

Tell us something about your last musical production.
It’s like our music, a little bit outta time production, not that much technical, cheap and fast; it’s called “Greetings from the voodoo island of lust” and it was released by Tail Crush label,!

On you define your genre: “Vodoo-garage-punk ”. Can you help us and our readers understand a bit more what does it mean?
We sure are voodoo because we believe in everything that’s magic, good vibrations and we are fucking superstitious! Garage is a bit a lie… we don’t play garage but Rock’n’roll, with a lot of punk madness, more in a way of the Damnned or so on….

Which artists have influenced your style & sound, if any? Any favourite artists?
Oh  favorite… so much influences in the devilish piranhas…  it goes from Hank Williams, Howling Wolf, Shangri Las and alllll  the glorious sixties garage, rockabilly, glam, cos Trex is a big influence, MC5 and Stooges, and New York dolls….. and everything after Cramps, B52’s, Revillos and we sure forgot a lot…

How is being a band from Marseille? What’s the best live act in your area? Tell us something about France musical movement.
Oh it’s cool to be in Marseille… Lots of places to play, some small and some big… lots of bands, garage, psychedelic, noise punk and crust… the problem is more to have people coming to live gigs… like everywhere in France. The problem is not money, problem is that it’s not a glorious period for Rock’n’roll.

What do you think about the DIY european movement?
If we don’t do it nobody does it for us so… I must say I don’t know if it’s good or bad, it’s a question of survival.

What’s the best live music show you’ve seen recently?
Andre Williams, Fuzztones, Barbacans and Golden Shower… and Jello Biafra and Guantanamo School of Medecine, which was one of the greatest gig of the year! Then oooh… I can’t remember everybody! We recently saw a lot of Italians playing garage, pretty good bands, wild and hot mexican garage bands too…

I know you are going to have mini tour in Italy? Have you ever played outside your country or it is the first time for you? Tell us something about it.
We have a problem with touring.. it’s sad but alone we don’t find a lot of places to play.. hope this situation will change soon coz we’re happy to leave France to play in italy! If a good angel want to take care of us for that we promise we’ll give him a lot of alcohol, pot and sex or everything he or she wants.. see how much we’re voodoo!  Ah ha

Tell us something about your best and your worst memory on the road.
We don’t have bad memories.. we’re built for the road…we have bad memories when we stay at home!

What do you think of Do you think it could be a good tool to facilitate the process of booking and organizing shows? Do you have any suggestions?
Livetrigger is a great idea, putting bands, promoters and venues together on a specialized network is necessary, particularly now, when it’s getting harder to find places to play rock’n’roll and yes, we hope it will help bringing nice gigs around. Any suggestion? Keep on rockin!
