MOM BLASTER: a new rock upbeat sound overcoming the usual reggae clichés, sending a message of reflection over the day to day selfish life

Hi. Tell us something about Mom Blaster project.
We are four guys from Lanciano (Abruzzo region), we put on the band in 2010, we liked the idea of playing a beautiful rock punctuated with some reggae and dub, to describe it in two words we called it “rock upbeat”. In 2013 we signed to the label Ridens Records and we released our first album “We Can Do It !”, nine tracks in English! We played all around Italy and it seems to be liked, and this gave us the strength to go ahead and try, however, to evolve (from our point of view), passing to Italian lyrics and a sound with more electronics.

How is being a musician from Lanciano – Italy? What’s the best live act in your area? Tell us something about it.
Playing in the province here in Italy is not easy, but there are people who work hard to create many concerts here. A beautiful experience was playing in the mountains at 4 am, during a festival called White Night. It was great to play before dawn in front of thousands of people dancing our music.

On you define your genres reggae, pop and dub. What does it mean to be a reggae band today?
Unfortunately, not much. Here in Italy in reggae continue to be always the usual cliches (or maybe we were not represented), which is why the new disc will focus more on the rock and electronics with shades of dub.

Tell us about your last album and about the direction your music is taking.
As we said, the album will be more rock with a lot of electronics and will be sung in Italian.

Where did you get inspiration for your music?
We get it from our present day, so deteriorated by selfishness and arrogance. We want to send the message of reflection through our lyrics and our music.

Which artists have influenced your style & sound, if any?
Many artists… Subsonica, Almamegretta and Casino Royale.

Did you plan to have a tour in the near future? Tell us something about it.
Surely! The new album should be out in November. From that moment on, we start to play the new album in different clubs in Italy. To get more news, follow us on

Tell us something about your best and your worst memory on the road.
A member of our band (not disgraced), traveling to a live in Turin, has vomited because he was sick. He had no other clothes and he was presented to the organizers as well. You can imagine how smelly and awkward that moment was!

What do you think of Do you think it could be a good tool to facilitate the process of booking and organizing shows? Do you have any suggestions?
We think it’s a great idea! We hope that many venue managers will Livetrigger to facilitate the concerts bookings and organization, especially here in southern Italy.
