ROMANO NERVOSO: tearing up the live scene since 2008!

ROMANO NERVOSO, the Italo-Belg godfathers of Spaghetti Rock, just came out with his new opus "Born to Boogie" and answered our questions while recording some new stuff!

Hi. Tell us your story in 3 sentences.
Romano Nervoso is an italian artist born & raised in Belgium. I’m the godfather of Spaghetti Rock. We started playing live in 2009.

What is your “home ground” area? Tell us something about it
My home ground area is La Louvière, a working class multicultural city in the middle of Belgium. It’s the Belgian Manchester. It gets a lot of undue criticism but I like it here, it’s what you make it I guess.

What’s the best live act in your area? Tell us something about it
Romano Nervoso – haha, just kidding. There’s a lot of talent that comes out of La Louviere, there’s a lot of talented people here, so it’s impossible to say which is the best because they’re ALL great! Just google La Louviere / music and you’ll get a list of some really amazing bands.

Which artists have influenced your style & sound, if any?
Marc Bolan, David Bowie, Alice Cooper, the Saints, Black Sabbath, the Sonics, Adriano Celentano, Rocky Balboa, Tony Manero & Rocco Siffredi and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Any favourite artists?
Yea, loads. Off the top of my head today – Black Sabbath

What’s the last live music show you’ve seen?
JC SATAN, a french psychedelic band from Bordeaux & GIUDA, italian glam rock band from Roma. Both great.

Beatles or Rolling Stones?
I’ll say Kinks & Sonics. Not a fan of either the Beatles or Stones

Tell us something about your best and your worst memory on the road.
I’ve so many memories both good and bad, it’s hard to pick one particular moment.
Best memory – playing a gig near Milano, 300 people were singing our songs, they were going nuts! The atmosphere was great, they then plied me with so much alcohol that I slipped and fell on a metal bar and broke 2 ribs. My band mates had to carry me back to the hotel and put me to bed. That was the first night of our Italian tour, I did the rest of the tour with broken ribs! Painful, but totally worth it! I went straight to the emergency room when I got back to Belgium.
Worst memory : We used to have this crap cruiser of a van and were on the way to Paris to play with Eagles of Death Metal. We’d taken back roads and short cuts to get there faster when it decided to give up on us. We got stuck in the middle of nowhere, ended up in a creepy gas station, y’know the kind you see in horror movies, and we had to cancel the gig because we were so far out in no man’s land that the tow-truck couldn’t even find us! It took them something like 5 hours to find us! We were gutted but relieved we didn’t come face to face with a psycho killer.
