WISH UPON A STAR: more than a decade of Greek punk rock around Europe

Wish Upon a Star is a punk rock band from Athens who has been rocking venues all around Europe since 2004

Hi. Tell us your story in 3 sentences.
We were studying in the same city and we met at the local rock bar. We were all punk rockers and each of us could play an instrument. We got drunk and created the band.

What is your “home ground” area? Tell us something about it
Even though we met in Rethymnon(Creta), the aforementioned studying place, our hometown and “base of operations” is Athens. It can be awesome as it can be boring at times. I think we have a love-hate relationship with this city!

What’s the best live act in your area? tell us something about it
There is a big “underground network” of bands playing various genres in Athens and most of them are great on stage. Some of the best Athenian punk rock bands to check out are Bandage, Despite Everything, Flipstar, King Medicine and Vodka Juniors

Which artists have influenced your style & sound, if any?
We grew up listening to bands such as Bad Religion, The Offspring, Hot Water Music and NOFX so I guess they have influenced our style and sound and actually made us play punk rock!

Any favourite artists?
Being four people working together for a common cause , means having many “favorite” choices that vary in style , instrument and maybe not musically at all. Our common favorite artists lay in our influences mentioned earlier.

Wish Upon a Star

What’s the last live music show you’ve seen?
We saw a great open air DIY festival 2 weeks ago with some of the best Crust/power violence bands around. Sarabante, Cut Off, Ruined Families, Anti Mob , Chaotic End and Bad Trip. Great lineup and it was an awesome show!

Beatles or Rolling Stones?
I think we are 50-50 on this!

Tell us something about your best and your worst memory on the road
As far as best memories go , being on the road with your friends playing your music to new people every night and get to meet them fates the show tops it all ! The worst memory was when we lost our boat from Venice to Greece , but it all worked out great in the end because we got to spend 1,5 days in the city of Venice which is awesome !

What do you think about LiveTrigger?
LiveTrigger is a very good way to create a network of artists, promoters and venues. It’s a very good effort and we’re happy to see it’s growing more and more! Hopefully it will be a standard tool for bands to book tours, solely by using it!
