Let’s start by introducing your project: who is Mari O. and the “Q” Band and where are you based?
Mari O. and the “Q” Band is a project by Mari O. Singer Song Writer/Producer from Central Florida, (USA).
I am always looking for new, exciting musicians. In the past, I’ve worked with local artists – including my daughter Jacki.
When I am not performing as a “Solo”, The “Q” Band often performs as a Duo, Trio or Quartet.
How was your 2019 so far?
2019 was extremely busy for me – most of my time was spent Writing, Recording and Producing my latest Album “Knee Mails” -One man Operation.
I played all the instruments and sang all the Vocals.
What’s the most exciting thing that happened to you recently.
The most exciting thing that happened to me this year is:
Surfin’ Vern (DJ for Surf 97.3 FM Radio in Flagler Beach, Florida) liked three of my songs (Currently on “Rotation” at the SURF) from my “Knee Mails” CD-The title cut, an Instrumental “Knee Mails”, “Prodigal Son (Ramon)” and “Pain”.
Mari O. and the “Q” Band” has two gigs this year – Dec7- Palm Coast, Fl. and Dec 14 Ormond Beach, Fl.
We will be performing as a Trio.
Myself on Guitar and Vocals, Bruce Scott (from Palm Coast, Florida) on Sax and Flute and Al Giordano (from Plant City, Florida) on Keys and vocals.
Where do you get inspiration and how do you create your music?
My Musical Inspiration may manifest itself in the middle of the night LOL!
Watching a Movie or the News. I can get inspired by a horn line, a guitar riff or another song. There is really no reason or rhyme behind the process. My Lyrical Messages are mostly Inspired by the Bible.
Creating Music to me is like a scientific experiment-Trial and Error! It is always a new learning experience.
Who are your favourite artists in your local scene and how did they influence your style & sound?
Santana speaks to my Latin roots. I find Jeff Beck’s eclectic approach to music very interesting.
My favorite Local Artist is Johnny Lobo (Keyboard Player).
I had the pleasure to work with Johnny promoting my last Album.
He is an amazing soloist.
What’s the best live music show you’ve seen recently?
The best Live Show I’ve seen lately is The Duprees. – (Tara’s Theme from the film Gone with the Wind-You belong to me…)
I went with my wife to a Rock and Roll Revival featuring The Duprees.
To my amazement, the “Old Timers” put on a Fantastic, entertaining and extremely energetic Performance,
What is your best and your worst memory on the road?
My best memory on the road was playing at The Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater Florida. Amazing Venue!
My worst memory on the road was while Touring in Canada.
Winter was approaching rather quickly and we had no adequate attire.
At this point we were extremely cold… mind you, winter was not even here yet!
Go figure Floridians!
Long story short we ended up cancelling the rest of the Canadian Tour and heading back to the US via Cincinnati.
We continued touring South making our way back to the Florida Warmth.
